The first three figures describe the position right after you press the button. Banked is half the stake multiplied by the current multiplier. Riding is the other half, still exposed. The crash-now figure is what you walk away with if the round ends this second: the banked amount, nothing more. The ladder shows the finish if the second half is cashed at each later multiplier, with the chance of a round that has already reached 2x going on to reach that level. The right-hand column is the same bet without the half cash-out, which is always higher when the round reaches the target and always zero when it does not. 💡 Key insight
The banked half gives the bet a floor. It does not change the average. The riding half is worth 5 × 2 = €/$10 at this moment, and its expected value at every later target is also €/$10, because F × (2/F) × 5 is €/$10 whatever F is. Half cash-out is a shape tool, and the shape it sells is a guaranteed stake back in exchange for half the upside.
📊 The maths behind it
The chance of reaching a multiplier F in a crash game is (1 – edge)/F. The chance of a round that has reached M going on to reach F is the ratio of the two, (1 – edge)/F divided by (1 – edge)/M, which is M/F. The edge cancels. From 2x, the chance of reaching 10x is 2/10 = 20%, the same in a 96.5% game and a 95% game, because the edge was paid at the start of the round.
Worked example: €/$10 stake, half cashed at 2x:
Move the half cash-out down to 1.5x and the banked amount is €/$7.50, so a crash returns three quarters of the stake rather than all of it. The stake is fully covered only when the half cash-out is taken at 2x or above.
🎯 What it cannot tell you
It cannot tell you when to press. The EV of the €/$10 bet is -€/$0.35 at 3.5% whether you take half at 1.5x, half at 5x, or never. Every row of the ladder has the same expected value as the crash-now figure, so there is no multiplier at which banking half becomes the correct play in a maths sense. It also does not know your operator’s RTP. Pragmatic Play ships Spaceman at 96.5% and some operators run it at 95%, a 5% edge, and the game’s info panel is the only source. The ladder does not move with the edge, but the cost of the bet does. Whether the results are fair at all is a separate question, handled in the Spaceman rigging guide.
The bottom line: Half cash-out at 2x turns a €/$10 bet into a €/$10 floor with half the upside. It is the same trade as running two €/$5 bets in Aviator and cashing one at 2x, which the dual bet strategy guide covers. Take it if you want smaller swings. Do not take it expecting to pay less.
❓ Frequently asked questions
Does half cash-out improve my odds?
No. It changes the distribution of outcomes: fewer total losses, smaller big wins, same average. The expected value of the bet is fixed by the edge the moment you place it, and splitting the cash-out into two moments does not touch it.
At what multiplier does the banked half cover the stake?
At 2x. Half the stake multiplied by 2 is the whole stake. Below 2x the banked amount is less than the stake, so a crash still costs you something. Above 2x you are guaranteed a profit on the round whatever happens to the riding half.
Why is the chance of reaching 10x from 2x 20% and not 9.65%?
Because 9.65% is the chance from the start of the round at a 3.5% edge. Once the round has reached 2x, the chance of continuing to 10x is 2 divided by 10. The edge and the early part of the round are already behind you.
Does the house edge change the ladder?
No. The conditional chance M/F does not contain the edge, so the ladder is the same in the 96.5% and 95% versions. The edge changes how often a round reaches your half cash-out point in the first place, and that is where the 95% version costs more.
