Mines is the game where every bust feels personal: your own finger picked the tile, so the mine looks like it was placed for you. That feeling is why no game in this corner of the casino generates more rigging accusations, and why the question deserves a proper, studio-by-studio answer rather than a one-word one.
We have run this test before: on Aviator, on JetX, on Spaceman and on Plinko. Mines is the hardest of the five to answer honestly. The name covers at least six different products with six different fairness models, and the game’s structure, a fresh risk decision on every tile, manufactures suspicion in a way a single cash-out button never does.

So this guide does three things. It separates the six versions and says plainly which you can verify, which you take on a testing lab’s word, and which is a marketing claim. Then it takes apart the three myths players repeat most, with the click-by-click maths to back them up.
The 30-second version
No: on the major provably fair builds, Stake Mines (99% RTP) and Spribe Mines (97%), mine positions are cryptographically locked before your first click, and you can verify every round yourself. But Mines is six different games from six studios, and the guarantee runs from verifiable cryptography down to an unverified marketing claim. The genuine danger is not the games: it is the predictor bots sold around them.
⚙️ Six games called Mines, six different fairness models
The first honest step in answering the rigging question is naming the studio, because at least six companies run a game called Mines and they do not offer the same guarantee. At the top of the trust ladder, Stake’s original Mines and Spribe’s Mines commit every board cryptographically before the round starts, and both publish the method. BGaming’s Minesweeper XY carries the studio’s provably-fair branding on top of certified RNG. Below that, Galaxsys and Hacksaw Gaming rely on third-party RNG certification with no per-round proof, and Turbo Games sits at the bottom: a 100% provably fair claim with nothing published behind it.
Two practical notes on that table. Spribe’s UKGC licence was suspended in late 2025 and reinstated at the end of March 2026: the case concerned hosting-authorisation paperwork, not game integrity, and player funds were never in question. ⚡ Twenty-five tiles, and every one is a decision
Mines draws more rigging accusations than any neighbouring format because of its structure: it is the only game here where you make a fresh risk decision on every click, against odds that worsen as you go. Set it against the formats around it and the difference is stark.
- Crash games: one decision per round, the cash-out, made under time pressure against a crash point shared by the whole lobby.
- Plinko: zero decisions once the ball drops. Risk level, rows and stake are all locked in before play.
- Chicken Road: many steps, and the risk rises with every one, because the hazards sit at fixed positions among 25 like mines on a grid.
- Mines: many decisions, and the conditional odds shift against you with every safe tile you remove.
The escalation is real arithmetic. On a 5×5 board with 3 mines, your first click busts 12% of the time: 3 mines across 25 tiles. Clear five tiles and the next click busts 15% of the time, because the same 3 mines now sit across 20. Clear ten and it is 20%; clear twenty and the next click is a 60% bust.
That ratchet is the engine of the suspicion. A crash player who busts blames the round; a Mines player who busts blames the tile, because their own finger chose it. Agency makes randomness feel targeted, and three specific accusations grow out of that feeling. None of them survives contact with the maths.

🛡️ Myth one: the game knows where you will click
On a provably fair build this is not merely false, it is cryptographically impossible, because the complete mine layout is locked before your first click. Before each round, the casino publishes a fingerprint of its secret: a SHA-256 hash of the server seed. That server seed, your client seed and a round counter called the nonce then determine the board. On Stake the seeds feed an HMAC-SHA256 function whose output drives a Fisher-Yates shuffle of the 25 tiles; on Spribe a SHA-256 commit-reveal scheme does the same job.
Either way, the board exists, complete and fixed, before tile one is touched. Your clicks reveal a layout; they do not create one. Could the casino move a mine after seeing where you click? Not without breaking its own commitment: the server seed it reveals afterwards must hash back to the exact fingerprint it published in advance, and a shifted mine means a layout the seeds can no longer reproduce.
The lock works in both directions, which matters later in this guide. Predicting a board would require the server seed, held only by the casino until after the round, plus your client seed, the nonce and the precise algorithm. Even with all four, you could only verify rounds already played, never foresee the next one. Requesting a new pair forces the casino to reveal the server seed that sat behind the old hash.
Hash it yourself
Run the revealed seed through any SHA-256 tool and confirm it reproduces the fingerprint from step 1 exactly.
Recompute the board
Feed the seeds and nonce into the published algorithm, or an independent checker, and confirm the mine layout matches the rounds you played.

That guarantee covers Stake and Spribe in full, and BGaming with the per-title caveat from the table. On the certified-RNG builds there is nothing to recompute: you are trusting the lab and the licence, not the maths.
🧠 Myth two: the mine is always where you click next
This is confirmation bias doing exactly what confirmation bias does: the bust ends the round, so the bust is the only click your memory keeps. Run the base rates. On a 3-mine board, roughly one first click in eight hits a mine, and the per-click risk only climbs from there. Across a few hundred rounds, “the mine was on my very next tile” will have happened dozens of times, because it is supposed to, while the hundreds of safe clicks in between leave no memory at all.
There is also a genuine mathematical kernel inside the feeling. As the escalation numbers above showed, the next click really is more dangerous than the last one, every time you survive. Players sense that rising danger correctly and attribute it wrongly: it is arithmetic, not aim.
The complaint threads follow one script. A player goes all-in, fails to clear five tiles, and declares the game rigged off a single session. On a 3-mine board, clearing five tiles is close to a coin flip, a 49.6% chance, so nearly half of all such attempts end in precisely the story the thread tells.

🔢 Myth three: more mines means a worse deal
Mine count changes how violent the ride is, not how much the house keeps: on the fixed-RTP builds the long-run return is identical at 1 mine and at 24. Every multiplier in Mines is built the same way. Take the true odds of surviving to that point, invert them to get the fair payout, then shave the house’s cut off the top: 1% on a 99% build, 3% on a 97% one. Because the shave applies to every multiplier at every mine count, the long-run return never moves when you add mines.
The construction is simple enough to do by hand. With M mines on a 25-tile board, your first pick is safe (25 – M) times out of 25, and each safe reveal shrinks both numbers by one. Survive a run of picks and the fair multiplier is one divided by the chance of that run; the paid multiplier is the fair one with the house’s percentage removed. The gap between the last two columns is the house edge, and it is collected on every cash-out, wherever you stop. Notice the five-pick row: surviving five tiles at 3 mines is a 49.6% shot that pays just under 2x. Strip the branding away and that is the whole game: slightly-worse-than-fair coin flips, repeated.
Now turn the dial. At 1 mine, the first pick is safe 96% of the time and pays 1.03x after the same shave: a low-variance grind that barely moves your balance. At 24 mines there is one safe tile in 25, a 4% first-pick chance paying 24.75x: same edge, opposite experience. Mine count works exactly like Plinko’s risk levels or a crash player’s cash-out target: you are choosing variance, not profitability.
🔍 Worth noting
Michael Shackleford’s Wizard of Odds analysis of BetFury’s Mines flags one genuine exception: at exactly one mine, the realised return depends heavily on where you stop, from roughly 96% after a single pick, sagging as low as 41% across the middle picks, and recovering to about 95% on clearing all 24 tiles. His advice is to stop at one pick or go all the way when playing one mine, and otherwise to pick two mines or more.
One boundary on the claim. “The RTP is fixed at every mine count” holds for the fixed-RTP builds; Galaxsys runs operator-set RTP between 93% and 98.89%, and Hacksaw’s setting is operator-chosen too, so on those versions the casino’s configuration matters far more than your mine count. A handful of affiliate pages also claim Spribe’s realised return sags at high mine counts; Spribe publishes a flat figure and we found no studio confirmation of any drift. Either way, check the in-game info panel before trusting any number in this article on your specific site.
The bottom line: on a fixed-RTP build, every mine count pays out of the same long-run pot. Choose 24 mines for the lottery ticket or 1 mine for the grind; the house’s cut does not move either way.

⚠️ The real scam is the predictor, not the game
Every Mines predictor app, signal channel and hack is a scam without exception, because the boards they claim to read are sealed before the round starts. The pitch barely varies: a Telegram channel or app claims software that reveals the safe tiles, for $75 to $100 in crypto, or asks for your casino API key so the bot can play on your behalf. The documented endings are just as consistent. The seller vanishes after payment, or the key is used to drain the wallet, and as one Reddit user put it after testing one: “The bot doesn’t work. If it did, Stake would go bankrupt.”
⚠️ Scam alert: No app, bot or Telegram group can predict mine positions on a provably fair build. The server seed is committed before the round and held by the casino until after it, so prediction is mathematically impossible. Anyone selling it is selling theft: of your fee, your API key, or both.
The cruel irony is that the predictor sellers lean on the same vocabulary the honest studios use: they claim to have cracked provably fair, when provably fair is precisely the thing that makes their product impossible. 🏆 The verdict, studio by studio
Mines is not rigged anywhere it can actually be checked, and everywhere else the honest answer is a trust level, not a yes or no. The six versions sort into three tiers.
The three myths dissolve the same way once the structure is clear. The game cannot know your next click, because the board was sealed before your first. The mine is not waiting on your next tile; your memory is keeping the busts and discarding everything else. And more mines is not a worse deal, only a wilder one.
The bottom line: name the studio before you judge the game. On Stake or Spribe, verify a handful of rounds yourself and the rigging question closes for good. Everywhere else you are extending trust, and after this guide you know exactly how much each version is asking for.
