The 30-second version

Rows and risk level change how often you get your bet back, not how much you lose on average. Martingale, edge drops and “hot slot” tricks do not work. What you can do: pick a 99% version and check the RTP before you play. Bet small. Set a fixed number of drops, and stop when they run out. We simulated 20,000 sessions with a $50 budget at $1 a drop. On 16 rows High risk, the money ran out before 500 drops 60% of the time. On 16 rows Low risk it never ran out.

🎯 No Plinko strategy beats a 1% to 12% house edge

No Plinko strategy can beat the house edge. On average, every drop pays back less than you bet. More drops just add more of that loss. Stake’s Plinko and BGaming Plinko each keep about 1% of every dollar bet. Spribe Plinko keeps 3%. Hacksaw Gaming’s Plinko keeps between 1.02% and 11.80%, and the casino picks the figure.

Your average loss is always the same sum. It does not care how you bet.

📖 The formula

Average loss = total amount bet x house edge. 1,000 drops at $1 is $1,000 bet. At 1% that is $10. At 3% (Spribe) it is $30. At 11.80% (Hacksaw’s lowest setting) it is $118.

The ball does not bounce at random as you watch. The result is fixed by the game’s random number or seed the moment you press the button. Our page on whether Plinko is rigged shows how this works. So there is nothing to aim, time or read.

🎛️ Five choices you control and what each one does

You control five things in Plinko: which studio’s game you play, the risk level, the rows, the bet size and the number of drops. Only the first one changes how much you lose per dollar. The other four change how often you win and how fast the money goes.

1

Which Plinko: changes your cost

Stake and BGaming pay about 99%, Spribe 97%, Hacksaw 88.20% to 98.98%. This is the only choice that changes your average loss. Our Plinko game guide compares the versions.

2

Risk level: changes how often you get your bet back

On Stake’s 16 rows, Low pays your bet back or more on 80.4% of drops. High does it on 21.0%. The RTP stays about 99% on both.

3

Rows: changes how big and how rare the top prize is

More rows means a bigger edge multiplier that comes up far less often. The cost per dollar barely moves.

4

Bet size: changes how long your budget lasts

Halve the bet and the same budget lasts about twice as many drops. Your loss per dollar stays the same.

5

Number of drops: changes your total cost

Every extra drop adds its share of the house edge. 100 drops at $1 on a 99% game cost about $1 on average. 10,000 cost about $100.

💡 Key insight

Moving from Spribe Plinko at 97% to a 99% version saves $20 on every $1,000 you bet. On Stake’s Plinko, no change of rows or risk level saves even $3.

🧪 Six popular Plinko strategies tested with real numbers

We tested the six Plinko strategies that come up most in search results and player forums. We used Stake’s Plinko pay tables, the same tables our calculator uses. None of the six changes the 99% return. Each one only changes how often you win and how quickly a budget runs out. The numbers below are for $1 drops.

1. Low risk on 16 rows: lots of small returns, still a loss

This is the most common “safe” tip. It does make the ride smooth. Most drops pay 1x to 1.4x, and only the middle slot (0.5x, 19.6% of drops) costs you much.

  • ✓Drops that pay more than your bet: 45.4%. Another 34.9% pay exactly your $1 back.
  • ✓After 100 drops, the typical result is about $1.20 down. You end ahead only about 1 time in 3.
  • ✗The top prize is 16x, so a lucky run cannot make up for many sessions.

2. High risk on 16 rows to chase 1,000x: a long wait you pay for

The 1,000x slots sit on both edges. Together they catch the ball 1 time in every 32,768 drops. Meanwhile, 79.0% of drops land in the five middle slots that pay 0.2x, so a $1 bet comes back as 20 cents.

Drops at $1Chance of a 1,000xAverage cost
1,0003.0%$10
10,00026.3%$100

The working: the chance of missing on one drop is 32,767 in 32,768. Over 1,000 drops you miss every time with a chance of (32,767 / 32,768) to the power of 1,000, which is 97.0%. So you hit at least once 3.0% of the time. Over a short session at $1 a drop, the typical result after 100 drops is about $11.80 down.

🔍 Worth noting

BGaming Plinko caps any single win at $10,000. On a $20 bet, a 1,000x hit pays $10,000, not $20,000. If you chase the top slot on BGaming’s game, a bet above $10 buys extra risk with no extra prize.

3. Fewer rows for “safer” wins: not always true

Many guides say fewer rows means smaller swings. On Low risk that is wrong. Stake’s 8 rows Low pays at least your bet on 72.7% of drops, less than the 80.4% on 16 rows Low. The ups and downs per drop are also bigger on 8 rows Low than on 16 rows Low. What fewer rows really does is make the top slot easier to reach. On 8 rows it comes up about once in 128 drops. But it only pays 5.6x on Low and 29x on High.

4. More balls and autobet: same loss, just faster

BGaming lets you drop up to 100 balls at once, and Hacksaw Gaming lets you put several balls on the board. A drop takes about five seconds. Speeding up does not change the loss per dollar. It changes the loss per hour.

  • ✓One $1 ball every 5 seconds is 720 drops an hour: about $7.20 average cost at 99%.
  • ✓Ten $1 balls every 5 seconds is 7,200 drops an hour: about $72 average cost at 99%.
  • ✗The same hour on Spribe’s 97% costs about $216.

5. Martingale on Plinko: worse than in other games

Martingale means raising your bet after a loss so one win gets everything back. Plinko makes it worse. A losing drop still pays a little back (0.2x on 16 rows High). So you have to work out each new bet. Say you start at $1 on 16 rows High and wait for any 2x or better slot.

📖 The working

Each losing drop costs 80 cents of every dollar bet. To get it all back plus $1 at 2x, each new bet has to be 1.8 times the last one. After 10 misses in a row you are $356 down and the next bet is $357, all to win $1. The chance of 10 misses in a row is 0.79 to the power of 10, which is 9.5%, or about 1 start in 10.

Spribe, BGaming and Hacksaw Gaming all cap a Plinko bet at $100. After 8 misses the next bet would be $110, so the cap stops the run there. Our Martingale guide covers why the system always fails, and the Martingale simulator lets you watch it happen.

6. Edge drops and aiming: there is nothing to aim

Some guides say dropping from the edge gives you more high multipliers. Stake’s and Spribe’s Plinko have no setting for where the ball starts. Every ball starts at the top, and the slot it lands in is fixed when you press the button. You can check a result on Stake or Spribe with our provably fair verifier.

Plinko predictor apps and bots do not work either. One site in our predictor scam tracker, checked on 4 October 2026, claims its tool turns Plinko’s RTP from 88% into 139%. No tool can see a result before the seed is revealed.

“Every Plinko strategy changes when you lose. None of them changes how much.”

📉 What happened to a $50 budget over 500 drops

On 21 October 2026 we simulated 20,000 sessions for each of four settings. We used the payouts Stake publishes for its Plinko. Each session had a $50 budget, $1 a drop and up to 500 drops. High risk on 16 rows ran out of money in 60.4% of sessions. Low risk on 16 rows never ran out, but still ended ahead in only 23.7% of sessions.

SettingRan outEnded ahead
8 rows, Low0%33.4%
16 rows, Low0%23.7%
16 rows, Medium8.4%37.6%
16 rows, High60.4%25.4%

Two things stand out. First, no setting ended ahead in even 4 sessions out of 10. Second, High risk does not just swing more, it often ends the session early. Medium and High end ahead a little more often than 16 rows Low. That is because a few big hits lift some sessions, while many others lose far more.

The bottom line: pick the risk level for how long you want your budget to last, not to win more. The average loss is about 1% of what you bet on every setting.

🧮 Check any row and risk setting yourself

Our Plinko calculator shows the chance of every slot on Stake’s Plinko. It covers 8 to 16 rows and Low, Medium or High risk. It also shows what 100 drops cost on average. Pick the setting that suits how long you want to play, then check the numbers below. The full odds tables are on the Plinko calculator page.

At each row the ball has an even chance of going left or right. That is why it lands in the middle slots most often and the edge slots almost never. Your casino may run a different Plinko with different pay tables. Check the game info panel.

✅ The least bad way to play Plinko

The cheapest way to play Plinko is a 99% version, a small flat bet, a fixed number of drops and a stop you keep to. With a $50 budget, $0.50 drops and 200 drops, the average cost is about $1 on Stake’s or BGaming’s Plinko.

1

Play a 99% version and check the RTP

Open the game’s info panel before you bet. On Hacksaw Gaming’s Plinko, skip any setting below the top 98.98%. Our page on casino-set RTP explains why the same game can cost more at one casino.

2

Bet 1% of your budget per ball

$0.50 on a $50 budget. On High risk, go lower, because 4 in 5 drops lose 80% of the bet.

3

Set autobet to a fixed number of drops

Choose the number before you start, one ball at a time, and do not raise the bet after a loss or a win.

4

Stop at half your budget

If $25 of your $50 is gone, stop. Our flat betting guide explains why one fixed bet gives the smallest swings.

⚠️ Important

Plinko is fast, and autobet makes it faster. If you keep topping up after the stop, that is a warning sign. Our guide to crash gambling and player harm lists the signs and where to get help.

❓ Frequently asked questions

Is there a Plinko strategy that wins?

No. Every setting on Stake’s Plinko pays back about 99%, so you lose about $1 for every $100 you bet on average. Strategies only change how often you win and how fast you lose.

Is low risk or high risk better in Plinko?

Neither costs less. Low risk on 16 rows gives your bet back or more on 80.4% of drops. High risk does it on 21.0% but offers a 1,000x slot. Pick the one that suits how long you want your budget to last.

Does Martingale work on Plinko?

No. On 16 rows High, 10 misses in a row happen about 9.5% of the time from any start. By then the next bet is $357 to win $1.

Can you choose where the ball drops?

No. In Stake’s and Spribe’s Plinko every ball starts at the top, and the landing slot is fixed when you press the button. Edge drop tips do not change anything.

What is the cheapest Plinko to play?

Stake’s and BGaming’s Plinko at about 99%. Spribe’s costs three times as much at 97%. Hacksaw Gaming’s can cost almost twelve times as much on its 88.20% setting.
